History

Played the first-ever rugby union international against Scotland at Raeburn Place on 27 March 1871.

The Rugby Football Union was founded in January 1871 by representatives of 21 clubs.

Won the 2003 Rugby World Cup final 20-17 against Australia in Sydney with a Jonny Wilkinson drop goal in the final seconds of extra time.

Reached the 1991 Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham but lost 12-6 to Australia.

Twickenham Stadium was renamed Allianz Stadium in September 2024 - the first renaming in its 117-year history.

Recent seasons

Steve Borthwick was appointed England head coach in December 2022 replacing Eddie Jones.
