Club history
Redruth RFC was founded in 1875 by Henry Grylls and W H Willimot who had returned to Cornwall after their education at Clifton College and Marlborough respectively.
The club relocated to The Recreation Ground in 1883 and has been based there ever since.
On 13 January 1879 the first-ever floodlit rugby match in Cornwall was organised by the Redruth club.
Cornwall won the County Championship for the first time in 1908 beating Durham 17 to 3 in front of 17000 fans at The Recreation Ground.
The Recreation Ground was considered the third largest rugby ground in England until the 1980s with an official capacity of 21172.
