Club history
Scunthorpe Rugby Club was formed in 1929 with first fixtures played on a rented farmer's field at £8 per season on condition the goalposts were moved after each game so animals could graze.
The club had 33 players on its books in its first season with the local press initially referring to the side as the First Eleven reflecting the confused early rugby culture in North Lincolnshire.
By 1933 the club had a grand total of £4 3s 7d in the bank.
Mr J. R. Heslam donated the current ground and paid to level the playing area making it fit for both rugby and cricket.
The club moved to Heslam Park in 1952 and has shared the ground with Scunthorpe Town cricket club since.
