Club history

Bishop's Stortford RFC was formed in 1920 and initially played its first matches at Dunmow Road.

The club moved to its present home at Silver Leys in 1928 where it has been based ever since.

Stortford reopened their clubhouse in 1985 with a celebration match between the First XV and an International Select XV.

The club won the National League 2 South title on 22 April 2017 by beating Exmouth 60-7 to gain promotion to the third tier for the first time.

Former England hooker Andy Long served as head coach from 2013 and later as director of rugby helping develop the modern club identity.

Recent seasons

Tom Coleman returned as sole head coach for the 2024-25 season after Marcus Cattell stepped down from the joint head coach role.

Beat Leicester Lions 59-35 away on 14 March 2026 in the result that confirmed Leicester's relegation from National League 1.
