Club history

The club was founded in 1925 as Bury and West Suffolk Rugby Football Club and played its first match that year.

The club moved to its current home at The Haberden ground around 1955 - about thirty years after founding.

On 3 March 1974 the club suffered a devastating loss when 18 of its members were killed in the crash of Turkish Airlines Flight 981 outside Paris.

The ground is today known as the Greene King IPA Haberden under its long-running brewery sponsorship.

The Men's 1st XV currently competes in National League 2 East the fourth tier of English rugby.

Recent seasons

Won the 2025-26 National League 2 East title on 25 April 2026 with a 95-28 home victory over Old Albanian.

Secured promotion to National League 1 for the first time in the club's history finishing two points clear of Oundle.

Established a partnership with Championship side Doncaster Knights in summer 2024 with five players including James Harrison and Calvin Mitchell loaned south.

Director of Rugby Jacob Ford announced he would stand down at the end of the 2025-26 National League 2 East season.
