Club history

The current Hull Ionians club was formed in 1989 by the merger of Hull and East Riding RUFC with Ionians RUFC.

The predecessor Ionians RUFC was founded in 1926 at a meeting at 37 Marlborough Avenue in Hull as a breakaway group from Old Hymerians.

The 1989 merger vote was not unanimous and split Hull & East Riding with dissenters reforming a separate club at the bottom of Yorkshire rugby.

The club moved to its current Brantingham Park home in 1994 with the clubhouse opening the following year in 1995.

Brantingham Park sits in the village of Brantingham just off the A63 between Brough and South Cave in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
