Club history

Leicester Lions RFC was formed in 1998 through the amalgamation of Westleigh RFC founded in 1904 and Wigston RFC founded in 1946.

The two predecessor clubs were situated only about two miles apart in the south of Leicester before joining forces.

World Cup-winning England captain Martin Johnson is among the notable former players who came through the Lions and predecessor clubs.

Lions entered competitive play in 1999-2000 in Midlands Division 1 and earned promotion to National Three North by 2005 then to National Two North in 2009.

The club is based at Westleigh Park in Blaby Leicestershire where it inherited and upgraded the established Westleigh facilities.
