Club history
The parent Barnsley RUFC was founded in 1902 and played at Wombwell Lane in Stairfoot before relocating to its current Shaw Lane home during the 1990s.
Barnsley Ladies were formed in 2014 from a group of players who had aged out of the club's junior section.
The women played their first ever fixture on 31 August 2014 - a friendly against Halifax Ladies fielded with a squad of just 11 players.
Across their first season in 2014/15 the Ladies played 12 friendlies winning 9 before applying to join the league pyramid and being admitted to National Challenge North 2 East.
The Shaw Lane women have now competed in the second tier of the women's pyramid every season since 2018.
