Club history
Blackheath Football Club was founded in 1858 by old boys of Blackheath Proprietary School and is the oldest open rugby club in continuous existence in the world.
The club was one of 21 founding clubs of the Rugby Football Union at the Pall Mall Restaurant meeting on 26 January 1871.
Club captain Frederick Stokes led England in the first ever international rugby union match against Scotland at Raeburn Place on 27 March 1871.
After 133 years at the Rectory Field the club played its final first-team match there on 30 April 2016 with a 45-17 win over Blaydon before moving to Well Hall in Eltham.
Blackheath bought the freehold of Well Hall for around £1.5 million becoming proud owners of their own ground for the first time in their 166-year history.
