Club history
Caldy RFC was founded on 27 February 1924 as the Old Caldeians Rugby Club by former pupils of Calday Grange Grammar School meeting at the Blenheim Cafe in West Kirby.
The Paton Field site was donated to the National Trust in 1928 by Sir Alfred Paton with the stipulation that one pitch be reserved in perpetuity for rugby use by the club.
The club went open and dropped the Old Caldeians name in 1968 becoming Caldy Rugby Club.
In April 2022 Caldy beat title rivals Sale 13-9 in front of a crowd of 3000 at Paton Field to win National League 1 and reach the Championship for the first time.
Recent seasons
Caldy won the 2021-22 National League 1 title by beating Sale 13-9 in front of 3000 at Paton Field to reach the Championship for the first time.
Caldy survived their first Championship season in 2022-23 by defeating London Scottish in a crucial fixture.
Caldy avoided relegation in 2024-25 as the RFU expanded the Championship from 12 to 14 teams for the following season.
Caldy closed the 2024-25 league season on 31 May 2025 with a defeat to Bedford Blues by a last-minute penalty.
