Club history

Worcester RFC was founded in 1871 by the Reverend Francis John Ede with the first known match played against the Royal Artillery on 8 November 1871.

The club moved to its Sixways ground in 1975 when the new clubhouse was opened having previously played at Bevere since 1954.

Backed by chairman Cecil Duckworth the club was promoted to the Premiership in 2003-04 after winning National Division One with a perfect 26-from-26 record - a then-unprecedented feat.

Worcester won the Premiership Rugby Cup for the first time in 2021-22 but entered administration on 26 September 2022 over an HMRC tax dispute and were suspended from the league.

Recent seasons

Worcester Warriors entered administration in September 2022 with debts of around £25m and were suspended by the RFU.

The Atlas consortium led by Jim O'Toole and James Sandford acquired the club in February 2023.

Chris Holland's Loxwood Holdings took 97% ownership of Atlas Worcester Warriors in 2024 after Atlas faced insolvency.

The RFU announced in April 2025 that Worcester would return to professional rugby in the 14-team Champ Rugby for 2025-26 with a financial security guarantee held by the RFU.
